I was drawn to Silent Beauty on a deeply personal level. Jasmin Lopez’s (director) strength and courage in telling her own story of overcoming sexual abuse inspired me to face some of my own long buried traumas and shadows. Little did I know that embarking on this collaboration would become such a powerful time of introspection and healing in my own life.

My north star in scoring this film became the idea of Jasmin finding her own voice by sharing of herself so generously and authentically. From a musical perspective, what represents this better than the human voice itself? And so I started with recordings of Jasmine's voice; singing, humming, whispering… bringing to the surface what is buried deep inside.

These vocal recordings are the spirit of the music, arranged with internal modular soundscapes, cassette processed nostalgic piano and other understated and almost hidden production elements. The overarching question for me was how can the music support Jasmin in her storytelling while staying out of the way, as much as possible?

Water is another recurring element in the film with Jasmin’s deep dives into her being and the Mediterranean sea. The music follows this submerging and surfacing of the past and present closely, playing with filters and reverbs to delineate the intricate movements of time and space.

Silent Beauty has forever changed my life. It has helped me in my own transformation from victim to survivor, for which I will be forever grateful.
